Dance solo
(RES) I play music, I stretch and I welcome the public. Cumbia comes and goes, I begin to reconnect with the classic choreographies of a lifetime and with other dances that arise spontaneously. It is my first solo work and abroad. “It wasn’t to make you fall in love, it was just to be there for a while. I warned you, my love, I warned you. You knew I was like that, one night passion and then the end. I warned you, my love, I 1, 2, 3.” The right foot steps next to the left in external rotation and returns to its place. The left foot steps next to the right in external rotation and returns to its place. I repeat over and over again. I dance with fear and vertigo. Nobody knows me. I dance as if I were alone. I dance with the public. I shake up the party. I dance for everyone, for each one and for no one in particular. Welcome to my party.
A dance solo, an immersive performance. A dancer DJ for export-opener-usher-technician-director welcomes her audience on stage. She wears a one-piece swimsuit and has her goggles on. She is already dancing. She plays music, she plays back popular and heartbreaking love songs. She dives and dives between the melodies of the music to create scenes, take them apart and put them back together again. There is no fade in or fade out. She does whatever she wants. She cuts the scenes short. She strips, twerks, does flying low, acts and laughs. She asks the audience to outline her silhouette while she is dying on the floor. She activates the smoke machine. An absurd and explosive catharsis in which the performer laughs at her condition as a migrant, at her loneliness, at her fears, at her ways of loving. She uses humor as a way of being with her pain. Res is a duel that is many duels at once, a ritual to go through uprooting.
